Obon is a time to honor our ancestors with gratitude, reflection, and joyful remembrance. At the Spokane Buddhist Temple, this annual celebration is filled with delicious handmade Japanese food, traditional crafts, and Bon Odori – the communal dance of remembrance and joy.
Whether you’re remembering a loved one, learning about Buddhist traditions, or simply curious about Japanese culture, everyone is welcome. No dance experience needed – just follow along and feel the rhythm. As one of our longtime dancers says,
“It doesn’t make any difference if you can tell your left foot from your right… just dance.”
- Hear the beat of the drums by Spokane Taiko
- Feel the connection of generations
- Taste the love in every bite of mochi and inari
- Be part of a tradition that transcends culture and time
All proceeds from the festival support our all-volunteer temple.
Come celebrate the causes and conditions that brought us all here. Dance with us. Remember with us. Laugh and sway and honor the path that brought you here.
