All are Welcome at the Spokane Buddhist Temple, especially those who are new to Buddhism or just curious about Buddhism. We welcome everyone, regardless of background and identity, creating a space where all feel valued, respected, and empowered to be their authentic selves.
Established in 1945, the Spokane Buddhist Temple holds weekly services on Sunday mornings at 10:30 am, following the tradition of Japanese Shin Buddhism. Our Sangha Services are hosted by our Minister Assistants, with the supvervision of Reverend Cynthia Yasaki, and help from other members of our Sangha. . Not having a resident minister of our own, we invite a guest minister to come and speak throughout the year for Buddhist Holidays. Additionally, we are an all-volunteer temple and welcome your participation in our weekly services and activities.
In addition to holding services, we usually have a food bazaar in the spring and fall, called Ramen Fest and Teriyaki Fest, and an Obon Festival in July or August, MochiFest at New Year’s plus other fundraisers. Our temple has a Japanese heritage, but all services are in English and most of our Sangha members are non-Japanese. We welcome everyone, regardless of background, identity, creating a space where all feel valued, respected, and empowered to be their authentic selves.. Update from August 8, 2026
We have received so many messages concerning the fires in Spokane, asking if the Spokane Buddhist Temple is all right. The fires, which are still burning, are not occurring near the Temple, but it has affected many areas of the city and the county. Over 700 homes are believed to be lost. As far as we know, no Sangha members have lost their homes, but several are currently living with friends or relatives as their home is in the evacuation zone.
We partnered with the Mission Meadows Community Garden, Spokane United We Stand/Family Guide, Island Style Food & BBQ, and the Vietnamese Buddhist Community of Spokane to prepare some meals for the victims and first responders. All together, there were over 40 volunteers and 12 organizations that came together to prepare and hand out the meals on 8/7/26.
